8. Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals

Yes, I know this is old.  But as I said in my initial post, there are plenty of albums I've never heard.  I just can't believe this is 13 years old.

The album is pretty good, actually.  It's a shame that I didn't check it out when it was first released.  The 1998 me probably would have been really into it.  I was already familiar with a few tracks on the album that I liked, specifically "The Dope Show" and "Rock is Dead", but had never really thought about listening to more.  I've always thought MM's voice had a great quality to it and that proved to be true on this album.  The only problem I had with the album is that some of the lyrics were so cliched Marilyn Manson, if that makes any sense.  I guess another way to put it would be that if I were to write some cheesy lyrics to sound like a Marilyn Manson song, I would write some of his actual lyrics.  It's like he's a caricature of himself (see Rob Zombie).

I'm glad I checked the album out and will probably come back to it again at some point, or at least for a few forgotten tracks.  I'm sure his other albums will make it into the list at some point.
